THE HISTORY OF THE FIRM
Seed and grass farming has a long tradition in the Rožnov region. Already in 1897 an important forage crop center was established at the School of Agriculture and Grass Cropping in Rožnov, the aim of which was to raise the quality of agriculture in this region. In the first years it focused mainly on increasing the harvest of fodder plants in the meadows and pastures and thus improving the cattle breeding and milk production.
In order to fulfill these aims a sufficient amount of suitable and high-quality grass seeds was needed. In 1920 Regional research forage and grass crop station was established and it started cultivating grass varieties from local flora sources. The work continued and in 1940 "Rožnov" plant varieties were bred, many of which are used up to this day.
In connection with the activities of the station "An association of grass seed propagators" was founded and led by Dr. L. Brady and his colleague Dr. J. Demely. The aim of this association was to administratively ensure the grass seed propagation on ever growing propagation areas.
For the treatment of produced grass seeds a purification station was build at the research station in 1942 and it produced seeds not only for the Czechoslovak Republic but also for abroad.
After 1948 many changes appeared. The research station became an independent unit and it continued its research programme and new plant variety breeding.
After several reorganizations the purification station became a part of Olomouc seed-farming and breeding company. In 1972 a decision was made to build a new station, which was completed and started working in 1981.
In 1994 the purification station became an independent firm - Rožnov Grass Seeds Ltd. (RTS). This firm carries on the tradition of all former Rožnov seed farming firms. It produces high quality seeds and grass mixtures for healthy freeze-resistant grasses for reasonable prices.
